Tanner Kassaw, a senior at Lufkin, was honored at Friday night’s Lufkin vs. Longview football game. This game was selected, along with others around the nation, as a spotlight game for the Great American Rivalry Series 2013.   This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Great American Rivalry Series, an elite schedule of football contests across America selected due to their unique and long-standing traditions and rabid fan support. The series will cover 38 states and 68 cities throughout the high school football season, celebrating the schools, their teams, student-athletes, and fans.

Tanner was honored as the top student-athlete from the varsity football squad, and was presented a college scholarship by a representative from the United States Marine Corps (a sponsor of the series) as an acknowledgement of his hard work on and off the field. This award was presented to the student athlete with the highest GPA from each team.
