Country Music Hall of Famer Mel Tillis underwent heart surgery over the weekend, but daughter Pam Tillis reports that the 81-year-old is doing very well.

"Over the weekend, Daddy required a routine heart procedure," Pam Tillis reveals in a release on Monday (March 10). "He's doing fantastic and is expected to make a full recovery."

She adds humorously, "In typical Mel Tillis fashion, he's already cutting up and cracking jokes with the nurses. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated."

The country singer, who has recorded over 60 albums, is recovering from his procedure in Nashville.

Over his astounding career, Tillis has nabbed 35 Top 10 singles, was named the Country Music Association's coveted Entertainer of the Year and is a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He has written over 1,000 songs, 600 of which have been recorded by major artists including Kenny Rogers, George Strait and Ricky Skaggs.

In addition to being recognized in the country music community, President Obama awarded Tillis the National Medal of Arts in February 2012.

ToC sends our best wishes to Mel Tillis following his procedure.
