1928 - Singer-songwriter Don Gibson is born in Shelby, North Carolina. He writes and records several classic hits--including "Sweet Dreams," "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Oh Lonesome Me"--earning a 2001 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
