This weekend, high school athletes from across the state will head to Austin to complete the Texas High School State Track Meet.  The 4X100 relay team from Columbus High School in Southeast Texas earned a spot by winning the regional meet...however, that team has now been disqualified.

When crossing the finish line, a runner from Columbus halfway raised his hand and then pointed to the sky to give thanks to God...that gesture according to the Texas UIL rules is not allowed.  These rules state that no athlete may engage in any excessive celebration which includes raising your hands or arms skyward.  As a result, the entire team was disqualified and forfeited their first place finish.
