The Nacogdoches 9U Dixie League All Stars paid a visit to the Merrell in the Morning Show on Tuesday.  We talked about their upcoming travels to the World Series, and we have a little game of lobby baseball.

First, let's focus on the great accomplishments of this team.  They will be representing the state of Texas at the Dixie League World Series in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  This group of Nacogdoches-area all-stars advanced through three separate tourneys to earn the title of state champs.  Many players on this team were also on the coach pitch 8U world series championship squad from last year.  However, this year, there are a few different names in the line up and this is a live pitch event with the kids doing the pitching.

Opening ceremonies in Hattiesburg will take place on Thursday with the first day of games starting on Friday.  Live play by play of the games will be broadcast at this link.  You can also find other information about the team and help offset some of the costs at this page. You can also check out their Facebook page here.

Mitch Ashley, play by play announcer for the team, as well as players from the team joined the Merrell in the Morning show for an interview on Tuesday.  After that was over, I thought I would try out my pitching skills of days gone by and challenge these youngsters.  Back in the day, we used to play ball with broom sticks for bats and bottle caps for the balls.  However, after a few pitches we decided to go with a custom, sawed-off bat and wadded up paper.  Check out the video below.  I got tagged by these guys just like I used to get tagged many years ago.
