Nacogdoches is known as the Oldest Town in Texas as well as the place in the Lone Star State for the best and most blueberries.  And another great honored is about to be bestowed on Nacogdoches. 

Anyone who drives around the city will find that beauty abounds in the form of plants and gardens.  During the Spring, azaleas of every color of the rainbow flourish.  The gardens around SFA are beautiful year round. And now, all the meticulous efforts of the area 'green thumbers' is paying off in another way.

The Texas Legislature was designated Nacogdoches as the 'Garden Capital of Texas'.  On July 31st at 10am, State Representative Travis Clardy, Mayor Roger Van Horn, and Dr. F.E. 'Ab' Abernathy will be speaking at a special announcement and presentation.  This will be held at the SFA Native Plant Center at 2900 Raguet Street in Nacogdoches.  The public is certainly invited and encouraged to attend.
