It takes hard work, great character, and unwavering focus to be a champion.  It's even more difficult to be repeat champions.

Once you've proven yourself or your team as the best, everybody is giving you their best shot to knock you off the pedestal.  But, the great ones just keep bringing home the medals and trophies...just like Michael Phelps, the SFA Lumberjacks basketball teams, and add to that list the Nacogdoches 10U Dixie League All-Stars.

Over the past 3 seasons, this group of boys has not lost a district, regional, state, nor world series tournament.  Several times, they have had their backs against the wall, but, in the end, they have always prevailed.  Such was the case over the past few days in Laurel, Mississippi.

That was once again the site for the Dixie League World Series.  Twelve teams representing 11 states started play on Saturday, August 6th in this double elimination tournament.  Our guys from Texas breezed past their opponents (Laurel, MS, Florida, Alabama) in the first 3 games by a combined scored of 34-5, but we stumbled in the fourth game of the series and dropped a close one to Alabama by a score of 8-6.

That meant that the Nacogdoches All-Stars would be sent home with another loss...and boy did they respond.  On Wednesday, we run-ruled South Carolina (11-1) and then avenged our loss to Alabama with a 15-5 victory.  That set up the world series championship showdown with Florida on Thursday, August 11th.  It was a slugfest in this winner-take-all game, but it was Texas who won the nail biter 16-14.

Congratulations to the players and coaches, and a big thank you to all the parents, families, friends, and sponsors who made this such a successful season.
