Many months ago, when the Nacogdoches 2014 football schedule became finalized, the game that fell on Halloween was already circled as a game that COULD go a long way in determining who would or would not got into the playoffs.

You can now remove the word 'could'.

The Whitehouse Wildcats travel to Nacogdoches tonight to take on the Dragons at 7:30.  Four teams from 16-5A will make the playoffs and Nacogdoches is currently alone in 3rd in the district standings with a 3-2 record.  Whitehouse and Lufkin are tied for 4th with 2-3 marks.  If the Dragons win tonight, they are guaranteed one of the 4 playoff spots and Whitehouse would likely be eliminated.

However, if Whitehouse wins, then it will be Nacogdoches on the outside looking in.  Lufkin will be heavily favored in their last two regular season contests.  Whitehouse should also get a win next Friday against Lindale.  And, John Tyler will be a significant favorite in their game next week against Nacogdoches.

The Dragons would not be totally eliminated from the playoffs with a loss against Whitehouse, but the chances of the stars aligning for that scenario to happen are less than the chances of George Strait going on tour with Florida Georgia Line.

Tonight's game should be a shootout.  Whitehouse loves to pass the ball while Nacogdoches features a more balanced offense, but both average scoring around 40 points per game.  For the first time since the start of district play, Nacogdoches will once again have the services of junior safety Brandon Jones.  He was lost for about 6 games thanks to a knee injury, but his services will boost the Nacogdoches secondary and he is an added threat on special teams.

Tonight's game is also senior night.  33 Dragons will be playing their final game on the home turf.

LET'S GO, DRAGONS!!
