Every year, millions of vehicles are recalled.  Chances are you have received a recall notice or two or three in the past.  But, have you always taken your car or truck back to get serviced?  Can you recall? (chuckle chuckle)

Or maybe you bought your vehicle used.  Did the previous owners get it fixed when and if a recall notice was received?  According to a report, about 1 in 4 recalled cars never get their recall work done.  This may not seem like a big deal to some, but keep in mind, some of these recalls are put in motion because the issue with the vehicle could lead to major problems, injury, or worse.

With so many recalls issued each and every year it gets to be a difficult Sherlock-style mission to try and find out if your vehicle is still subject to a recall from the past. Well, not anymore, thanks to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association.

The NHTSA has introduced a website specifically to help in these cases.  All you need to do is enter the vehicle's VIN and the site will let you know the following:

  • Safety recalls that are incomplete on a vehicle
  • Safety recalls conducted over the past 15 calendar years
  • Safety recalls conducted by major light auto automakers, including motorcycle manufacturers.
