Dwayne Johnson just wants to know what’s happening to his friend. And that friend just so happens to be a giant genetically-enhanced gorilla who’s growing at an exponential rate and is just really freaking scared. In Rampage, everyone wants to capture and kill the silverback gorilla, but luckily he’s got his bud The Rock on his side to help protect him from the real monsters – greedy science-minded humans with guns.

In the first trailer for Rampage, an adaptation of the video game of the same name, Johnson’s Davis Okoye is a primatologist who raises George, his monkey pal, from birth. But a freaky science experiment goes awry and turns poor George into a King Kong-esque behemoth. There’s also a 30-foot wolf and a massive crocodile who are wreaking havoc on Chicago. Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s smug suit wants to put the creatures down, as most would, but it’ll take one hulking human to save his hulking animal pals, and of course Johnson is the only appropriate one for the job.

Here’s the full synopsis:

Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth.  But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size.  To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals.  As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

Rampage, which of course comes from the producers behind San Andreas, also stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, and Jake Lacy. Check out the new poster below and prepare for The Rock to lovingly speak in sign language to a gorilla on April 20, 2018.
