Rap Opens The CMT Music Awards This Day in Country Music – June 8th (Video)

2009 – From the odd pairings department: Taylor Swift and rapper T-Pain record “Thug Story.” The track uses her song “Love Story” for a satirical show opener at the following week’s CMT Music Awards.

 

2011 – Blake Shelton is the only double winner in the CMT Music Awards at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

 

2006 – Keith Urban joins Brooks & Dunn for “Believe” at the first nightly concert of the CMA Music Festival at Nashville’s LP Field. Also performing: Dierks Bentley, Hank Williams Jr., Sara Evans, Pat Green, Little Big Town, Blake Shelton and Gary Allan.

 

2005 – Kenny Rogers, Trace Adkins and Montgomery Gentry tape a concert for “CMT 100 Greatest Duets.” Also featured: Lee Ann Womack, Clint Black, Lisa Hartman Black, Raul Malo, Marty Stuart, Travis Tritt, Joe Nichols, Blake Shelton and Crystal Gayle.

 

2003 – Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man” is ranked #1 when CMT debuts its “100 Greatest Songs Of Country Music.” Ex-husband George Jones chimes in at #2, with “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” Wynette also lands at #35, with “D-I-V-O-R-C-E”.

 

1996 – George Strait’s “Blue Clear Sky” takes over the #1 position on the Billboard chart.

 

1993 – Rocker Bryan Adams joins Billy Ray Cyrus on stage during the Mercury Records showcase at Fan Fair. At the same show, Adams’ producer, Robert John “Mutt” Lange, meets his future wife, Shania Twain.

 

1981 – Fiddler Sara Watkins is born in Vista, California. She joins Nickel Creek, an accomplished bluegrass act that gains two Grammy nominations before she turns 20. She becomes a solo artist in 2007.

 

1974 – Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” presides at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart.

 

1962 – Skeeter Davis records “The End Of The World” at RCA Studio B in Nashville.
