Over time, things change. That's just common knowledge. And - contrary to popular belief - things do actually change here in East Texas. Not everything is exactly the same.

Over the years, I've gotten to watch different changes that have come to - or gone away from - Nacogdoches. As I was thinking about some of those changes, I started to jot a few down. These are some of the ones I came up with. See if you remember these.

    Nacogdoches Had A Waffle House

    This is probably one of the most common requests from people, especially college students: "You know what Nac needs? A Waffle House." Well, even though you may not know it, there WAS one, down on South Street.

    SFA Tried To Change Their Logo

    This was one I was on the front lines for, because I was still an SFA student at the time that this change was attempted. It didn't get very far before it was met with quite a bit of opposition. Obviously, it didn't pass.

    Nacogdoches Had Jitterbugs

    I didn't get to enjoy Jitterbugs before it burned down, but I can remember seeing it on the loop and I remember hearing about the artists that played at it. Not that Banita Creek Hall isn't great, but it wasn't the original in Nac, in case you didn't know.

    Nacogdoches Had An H-E-B

    Yes, I've heard the rumors that there is actually one coming back to Nacogdoches. However, it hasn't happened yet. And, for those of you who didn't know, it was located on University Drive, where Brookshire Brothers now sits.

    Willie Nelson Recorded An Album In Nacogdoches

    That's right, Willie did record in Nacogdoches, at Encore Studio. The recording took place in 1997, and "Nacogdoches" was released in 2004.
