On February 15th of this year, Alicyn D. Mitcham of Colmesneil tragically passed away in a skiing accident while on vacation with her family in Colorado.  Join Alicyn’s family and friends for a celebration of her beautiful life at the Run to Remember this Saturday, June 24th. The event will be held at Lake Tejas in Colmesneil.

All proceeds from this event will go toward the purchase of a new scoreboard for the “Alicyn D. Mitcham Field”, Colmesneil High School’s softball field which was renamed to honor Alicyn’s love of the game, and to memorialize the impact she had on our community.

Run/Walk participants may choose from the following events:

  • 7:45 am: 1k Kids Dash (for children under 12) - $20,
  • 8:00 am: 10k Run/Walk - $45,
  • 8:10 am: 5k Run/Walk - $35;

Participants may register online at this link or on-site at the East Pavilion at Lake Tejas 4:00 to 6:30 pm on Friday, June 23rd, or at 6:45 am on Saturday, June 24th. Registration will close 5 minutes before each start time.

Packets can be picked up at these times as well. Please bring your signed race waiver and ID for pickup of your race packet/registration, and follow the signs for parking, registration, and event start.

All race categories will receive medal awards for top finishers. TTR Timing will provide time management for participants in the 5k & 10k runs, however, the kid's dash will not be timed.  All racers will receive a commemorative t-shirt, cup, wristband, and 2 passes to Lake Tejas in their race packet - this is included in the cost of registration.

This is a unique race venue with Lake Tejas as the centerpiece. The trail will go around the lake and in and out of the surrounding wilderness; it includes sand, hills and wooded area. None of the course is paved, and it is not stroller friendly terrain, but is a comfortable walking trail. A chance or rain is in the forecast, but this is a rain or shine event, the race should go on as scheduled.

The course will be clearly designated with markers at intersections. Snacks and drinks will be available. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing (shorts/workout gear and tennis shoes). The lake will be open for swimming at 9:00 am, so be sure to bring bathing suits and towels to cool off after the race.
