If you and your family have time to get away for a day or two during the Christmas holiday you may want to consider a trip to 'Santaland' and 'ICE'.

Many folks in East Texas are familiar with Santaland, located off Interstate 20 near Tyler.  There are quite a few drive through Christmas light displays across Texas, but Santaland is the original.  Over 2 million lights adorn the path. You'll need to be patient, though, you could experience a wait of anywhere from half an hour to over two hours during extremely congested traffic.  The cost is $25 per carload and the entire circuit through the park should take around 25-30 minutes.  Santaland is open nightly through January 4th from 6-10:30 p.m.

The Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine has a recurring holiday event called Lone Star Christmas and ICE.  I have never been to this event but I've heard great things about it.  There are over 2 million pounds worth of ice sculptures in a room kept at 9 degrees, don't worry, they provide you a parka to wear.  Other attractions include a two-story ice slide, snow tubing, ice bar (for those over 21), larger than life ornaments, and a beautiful nativity scene made out of crystal clear ice.
