Today is the annual Great American Smokeout sponsored by the American Cancer Society.  Sometimes just taking the first step to a goal can end up have life changing results, and that is the hope of the organizers of this event.

Did you know that every day in Texas, 67 people die as a result of tobacco use.  Students from across the area are lending their support and voice to the Great American Smokeout.  SayWhat! students and Angelina County Drug Free All Stars will be at East Texas Asphalt this morning at 10:30 for a special press conference.  They will be passing out 'quit kits' which are designed to help individuals in their goal to stop tobacco use.

You're invited to visit the Yes Quit website to learn more about the best practices to quit tobacco use.

Today on the Merrell in the Morning Show, SayWhat! (Students Adults and Youth Working Hard Against Tobacco) representatives spoke about this initiative. Sara Flowers (pictured at left) is a junior at Diboll High School and was recently nominated for Diboll Day queen. Sara is a member of the Angelina/Nacogdoches SayWhat! group that went to The Woodlands this past Summer to learn more about tobacco prevention.  Kadie Beth Wisener is a sophomore at Crimson Christian Academy and was recently selected as a statewide SayWhat! Teen Ambassador.  She is also state secretary for the Texas High School Rodeo Association.
