Premont ISD has decided to cancel all school sports.  This, in response for under performing academically over the past couple of years.

Premont has about 700 kids in the school district and is located about an hour South of Corpus Christi, and at the end of the current basketball season, all sports will be canceled for one year.

That means no tennis, track, or baseball this Spring, and no football or volleyball next Fall.

This decision comes on the heels of the school district being rated academically unacceptable for the second time in three years.  The superintendent has also said that $50,000 would be saved this semester alone by cancelling sports and that would be used to build two science labs which are deemed necessary by the Texas Education Agency.
