SFA Athlete Makes Collegiate History

4.63 meters...that equals 15 feet, 2 1/4 inches.  That's a long way to go against gravity, while running, with a huge bendable stick in your hands.

And that's the exact height of the brand new world record set by SFA junior Demi Payne.  No other NCAA female in history has ever cleared that pole vault height in indoor competition. 

Payne's record breaking performance took place Saturday at the Texas A&M Track Invitational.  In fact, the women's indoor pole vault record had just been broken the day before by Sandi Morris from the University of Arkansas, but that record certainly didn't stand the test of time.

SFA's track and field program ranks as a dynasty under the tutelage of Coach Phil Olson, but this is the first time that he can brag about having an athlete that holds a national collegiate record.

Congratulations to Demi Payne, New Braunfels Unicorn to SFA track star to NCAA record holder.
