We are nearly halfway done with the Southland Conference basketball season.  And over the course of the next several weeks there will be some very important and monumental games when it comes to deciding who gets the Southland Conference championship and invites to the big dance.  However, the game this Saturday between Northwestern State and SFA is one of the nation's most intriguing match ups of the year.

The Lumberjacks come into the game as college basketball's number one scoring defense, allowing opponents an average of just under 50 points a game.  Meanwhile, Northwestern State is the nation's most prolific scoring offense, averaging over 85 points a game.

Call it the battle of oil and water.  Something's gotta give and it should be interesting to see how this plays out.  The stats make it interesting, however, both teams are at the upper end of the conference standings.  SFA is off to one of its best starts in program history, 16-1 overall and 7-0 in Southland play.  Meanwhile, the Demons have only dropped two games in conference.

The Ladyjacks and Lady Demons will square off first at 1 on Saturday, with the men to follow around 3.  Both games will be in Natchitoches and will be broadcast on Q107.

Axe 'em, Jacks!!
