Since she's one of the most iconic country stars of the last few decades, you’d think Shania Twain would have always been comfortable on stage. But the artist admits she has struggled with stage fright her whole life — once so badly she ... had an accident.

Twain confessed to James Corden on the Late Late Show recently that as a teen, she once agreed to perform an original song at her school, and the pressure to sing in front of her peers was terrifying.

“I literally peed myself, I was so nervous,” she says. “This was not a little pee. This was a puddle.”

But the good news is, she’s quick on her feet. She jumped into problem-solving mode, surveyed her surroundings and managed to salvage her reputation with a strategically placed beverage.

“Thankfully I had a glass of water at my feet,” she recalls. “I knocked it over to hide the puddle.”

“Genius!” Corden appropriately declared. “You’re like MacGyver.”

That ingenuity, combined with the fact that she was wearing a skirt, meant she left no trace of what actually happened.

“I totally got away with it. Nobody knew that I peed myself,” she concluded. Well, now they do. But we’re just impressed. Watch the full confession in the video above.

Though she said she’s been fighting stage fright ever since, she’s certainly overcome it enough to perform over and over again, including a residency in Las Vegas.

The artist is gearing up to release her first album in 15 years, after overcoming dysphonia, a disorder which makes it difficult to sing and causes hoarseness.

“I’m a different singer now,” she says of her deeper singing voice. “There was a lot of coming to terms with that. It’s been one of the obstacles in my life I’ve just had to learn to live with.”

She has said she felt it was brought on by the stress of her divorce in 2010, which inspired some of the songs on the album. The record is expected out in the fall, but fans were disappointed to learn she did not reveal any new info on the Late Late Show.
