The Voice season 14 Top 12 contestants from Team Adam Levine, Team Blake Shelton, Team Alicia Keys and Team Kelly Clarkson performed live for America's votes on Monday (April 23). While all contestants did well, Spensha Baker from Team Blake this week had a particular advantage in the country arena.

Shelton flexed his muscles and saved Baker last week, and she repaid him with a Trisha Yearwood cover ("Down on my Knees") this week that combined her own gospel background with her country aspirations. She gave her coach even a bit more golden TV by breaking into tears at the end, all the while maintaining perfect technical precision.

"I'm grateful to sing stories," she explained after, noting that she grew up in a household that appreciated gospel music, but that "I remember singing a country song and I started bawling...This song tells the story of how I feel about music."

An admiring Shelton advised her that she had basically all it took to get along in the country genre; namely a storyteller's vibe and a compelling voice. "I swear you're still one of my favorites I've ever had to work with," he marveled. "The country music fanbase out there heard that tear in your voice.

"You’re doing exactly what you're meant to do, by singing country music on The Voice," he concluded.

Tune in tomorrow (April 24) for the results, which will determine if Baker makes it to the next round.
