It's National 4-H Week and this morning on the Merrell in the Morning Show we featured a couple of students who shed some light on what 4-H week is all about as well as the many events and projects that 4-H youth are involved with throughout the year.

Corinne Caraway, President of the District 5 Council and State 4-H Council member, and Coy Westbrook, Public Relations Officer for the District 5 Council, were on the show this morning.  Caraway is a student at Lufkin High School while Westbrook attends Centerville High School in Trinity County.

Both students gave insight this morning that 4-H is more than just 'cows, sows, and plows'.  In addition to building leadership and character, 4-H projects and activities can be helpful and provide guidance for many career endeavors.  Caraway hopes to continue with her professional photography business, and 4-H has been a major part in providing skills in that area.

National 4-H week will include events such as the 'Tacky Prom', One Day 4-H event, and a coat drive.  Area 4-H members are asking resident to donate new or like-new coats to the collection points of Commercial Bank of Texas in Lufkin and Nacogdoches.
