1933 - Harold Jenkins is born in Friars Point, Mississippi. As Conway Twitty, he leaves a pop-rock career in 1965 to pursue country music, racking up hits consistently for more than 20 years.

1997 - Touchstone Pictures debuts the movie "Con Air," with Trisha Yearwood singing "How Do I Live."

1993 - Conway Twitty dies from a stomach aneurysm in a Springfield, Missouri, hospital.

1936 - Mickey Gilley born in Natchez, Mississippi.
