October 24, 2011 For the past several months, Zavalla's own Dustin Ellermann has been competing in the History Channel's 'Top Shot' reality show. Each week, Ellermann has been advancing to the next round.
Well, now we're down to the final four in the competition and the winner will be crowned Tuesday night.
October 18, 2011 Yes....that's me with George Strait.
It was around 1983 in Austin, I was 19, and the only thing that concerned me more than actually getting to meet George Strait (only a couple of number ones at that time), was to make sure I sucked in my cheeks and pushed back the sleeves of my satin jacket so that I could look....cooool.
September 20, 2011 I've heard it said that when it comes to raising kids, sons are a lot less expensive than daughters. I think the brunt of that message is about to hit me square in the jaw.
My oldest is a 15 year old girl...and it's homecoming season. When I was going to high school (eons ago), I never really had a girlfriend, at least not during homecoming, so buying mums, or gifts, or going to the homecoming dance was not an issue...but now, well, let's just say I need some help and direction.
September 11, 2011 I was not alive when Pearl Harbor happened. Heck, my mom was only 4 years old at the time. Much like anyone born years after 1941, I knew the details about the attack on Pearl Harbor, but I could hardly fathom the feelings of the profound significance of that terrible day on December 7th.
That all changed for me in 1980, and even more so in 2001.
August 18, 2011 Emerson...Dante...Tennyson...Dr. Seuss...today is not their day.
This is the day that we aspiring poets try our best effort at verse. Nope. Scratch that.
This is the day that we silly people try to make up bad poetry - limericks, haiku, iambic pentameter (not sure what that means, but it sounded poetic)...any style of poetry is up for grabs.

July 28, 2011 The 1st ever Blazin' Buffalo Wild Wings Fun Run is this Friday beginning at 5:30. Sean Ericson and myself will be participating and we want you to come out and join us for an event that is one of a kind.
We've mapped out a 2 mile course behind Buffalo Wild Wings in Lufkin that you can walk, run, or a combination of both...but, there's an extra part to the fun run.

Conlee is still keeping busy with touring and making new music (Classics 2 is his latest effort), but he's also quite content at maintaining his huge garden and canning all sorts of vegetables.
John Conlee will be in concert this Friday night at Banita Creek Hall in Nacogdoches and I had a chance to talk with Mr. 'Rose Colored Glasses' about gardening, the state of country music, and much more...after the jump.
July 19, 2011 We had some champions stop by the Merrell in the Morning show today.
The Rampage softball team, who just happen to be the 14 and under state champions paid us a visit today and told us about their experiences in trying to bring home the world series title.

July 6, 2011 His name is Glen Templeton...and he was featured on the Merrell in the Morning show.
He's also gonna be coming back to town as part of a special show with Brantley Gilbert.
After listening to Glen's debut CD, I really believe that he really has what it takes to make it to the big time...and when I say big time, I mean standing on the stage, collecting awards big time.
But, I would love to get your input on some of his songs to find out whether I'm on the right path, or whether you believe he's not as good as I think he is.
June 28, 2011 I turned 40 in the Summer of 2004.
Up until that time, my body and I were on very good speaking terms. I could jog a couple of miles or golf 18 holes or play a pick up game of basketball and still be able to sit upright at the dinner table that evening.
However, it seems the VERY DAY I turned 40, my body has been doing most all the talking...and when I say talking, I mean complaining, whining, and at times, screaming out like a squeaker toy that just got run over by an 18-wheeler.
May 25, 2011 I love my kids - I have three, two daughters and a son.
I teach them love, patience, compassion...and that a good prank is hard to beat.
