They’re out with those numbers again, about how much it costs to raise a child from age 0 to 17.

Parents will swallow hard. The US Dept. of Agriculture says it takes $234,900 to raise a kid, including food, shelter, and necessities. Depending upon your definition and your child’s definition of necessities, it could be $2 million, right? A kid has to have his Wii.

Texas is actually one of the cheapest places in the US to raise a child.

Swift was crowned with this accolade by Forbes, which annually estimates and tallies the earnings of celebrities. The singer topped the overall list, edging out many of her contemporary, popular music peers by collecting approximately $57 million in income between May 2011 and May 2012.

Teen truancy is a real problem for a lot of schools, but especially so for the Dohn Community High School in Cincinnati. It only has a 14% graduation rate and has been deemed an “academic emergency” by the state of Ohio.

So the school is trying out a novel approach: it’s paying students to show up and behave themselves.
