It's high school football playoff time in Texas. The Pineywoods is well represented with teams from Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Garrison, Corrigan-Camden, Shelbyville and many others taking to the gridiron this Thursday through Saturday.
A rainbow arching near the Hallsville stadium represented the calm before the literal and figurative storms on Friday night. Not long after this picture was taken, several nearby lightning strikes caused a half hour delay to the start of the Dragon and Bobcats football game.
It's only the first week of high school football season and already there are some marquee match-ups going on. In fact, ETSN.fm has pegged the game between Longview and Lufkin as the East Texas Game of the Week.
One year ago, Whitehouse was off to their best start in Wildcat history. They were 7-0, however when you compare the margin of victory from last year to this year, a strong argument can be made that this year's undefeated Wildcats are even better.
For the 73rd time, the Panthers and Lobos will be meeting on the high school gridiron tonight. Lufkin holds a slight lead in the all time series, but as is usually the case, you can expect a great game tonight at John Outlaw Memorial Field as these two 5A powerhouses meet.
