The Real co-host Tamera Mowry-Housley turned to social media on Monday (Nov. 12) to honor her niece Alaina Housley, who was killed in the mass shooting at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Nov. 7.

She shared a picture to mark her son's birthday. “Happy 6th birthday Aden,” Mowry-Housley wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of her son with her niece. “Alaina was excited to come to your birthday party. But as you said buddy, 'She lives in your heart now.' We love you.”

Mowry-Housley’s The Real co-hosts took the time to honor Alaina on Monday's episode, in which the former Sister, Sister star did not appear.

Remember the Borderline Bar and Grill Shooting Victims:

“Alaina was only 18 years old,” Loni Love said. “She was a freshman at Pepperdine University, the same school that Adam and Tamera attended. She planned to major in English literature and join a vocal music program after being involved in her high school choir. She was also involved in a charity program that donated soccer equipment to young people in the developing world.”

A special message from Tamera’s husband, former Fox News correspondent Adam Housley, was also read during the show.

“Before we can even get a consistent national gun policy we have to understand that we as a country and as a society are at crossroads — the hatred, the judgment, the polarizing and the lack of heart,” the message read. “We are going to make a change, I can guarantee it. Alaina is with us as we do this.”

Housley was one of 12 people who died after a gunman burst into the country bar on college country night and began firing with a handgun. The other victims confirmed dead are 22-year-old Cody Coffman; 23-year-old Justin Meek; Sean Adler; 21-year-old Blake Dingman; Marine Corps veteran Daniel Manrique; dancer and artist Noel Sparks; 27-year-old Navy veteran Telemachus Orfanos; 21-year-old Jake Dunham; Mark Meza; and Kristina Morisette.

Ventura County Sgt. Ron Helus died after he was struck by multiple shots while heroically trying to stop the attack.
