Texas Man Saves Own Life by Biting Head Off Snake
Coral snakes - their related to the cobra, quite numerous in Texas, and are extremely poisonous. Valentin Grimaldo - he is a Texan....need we say more.
Even though this event happened nearly 20 years ago, it's still amazing.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Valentin Grimaldo was walking down a rural stretch of road near Edinburg in South Texas, he reached into the grass and was bitten by a coral snake. Grimaldo knew he was in a bad situation given the potent venom and his being by himself, miles from the nearest clinic.
But the Texan in Grimaldo came through. He bit off the head of the coral snake, and then used the skin of the dead snake as a tourniquet to keep the poison from spreading quickly. Not long after the makeshift tourniquet was in place, a passerby stopped and drove Grimaldo to the hospital where he was treated and then made a full recovery.
