1952 – Donnie Van Zant is born in Jacksonville, Florida. A brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Ronnie Van Zant, he joins 38 Special in the 1970s and forms a side project, Van Zant, with brother Johnny, making inroads in country music in 2005.

 

1949 – Hank Williams makes his debut on the Grand Ole Opry, performing “Lovesick Blues” and “Mind Your Own Business.” Legend claims he receives six encores. In the audience is Porter Wagoner, attending his first Opry show.
