Labrador Retrievers once again top the list of the most popular breed of dog in the U.S.  Every year, the American Kennel Club comes out with the top ten rankings and for the 24th straight year, the Lab, whether yellow or black, is number one for the results from 2014.

I've had several 'mutt' Labs through the years and they are good dogs, but man, do they like to dig. I'm talking tunnels that would make a miner proud.  Currently, our dog family consists of Goldie (short for Goldielocks) and Scrat (named after the Ice Age squirrel).  They were both strays that somehow could sense the word 'sucker' on my forehead.

Here's the listing of the most popular breeds in America in 2014:

  1. Labrador Retriever
  2. German Shepherd Dog
  3. Golden Retriever
  4. Bulldog
  5. Beagle
  6. Yorkshire Terrier
  7. Poodle
  8. Boxer
  9. French Bulldog
  10. Rottweiler
