Earlier this afternoon, Lufkin Police arrested the Englewood vehicle burglaries suspect on an unrelated charge – theft of a firearm. An officer alerted the Criminal Investigations Division of the suspect’s identity – Japatrick Davis, 20, of Lufkin.   Detectives went to Davis’ home on Ford Chapel Road and were given permission to search his bedroom by his father. During the search, detectives found the weapon – a 9mm handgun – which had been reported stolen out of College Station. Thanks to the video that the homeowner captured, we were able to quickly make this arrest. Please remember to lock your vehicles and remove valuables that may tempt thieves.

A few weeks ago, the Lufkin Police Department warned area residents of a spike in recent car burglaries.  Apparently, that trend continues as the LPD is reporting recent rash of burglaries in the Englewood subdivision of Lufkin.

One of those burglaries occurred in the 800 block of Cunningham Drive.  A woman reported that someone entered her vehicle and she caught him on surveillance video. She described him as a black male with a large tattoo on his left arm wearing shorts, a Nike tank top and backpack. She was unsure if he took anything.

That surveillance video is posted below from the woman's Facebook page.  If you are able to identify this person or if you have any information regarding these burglaries, please contact Crimestoppers at 639-TIPS.
