Tim McGraw is getting fans involved with his performance at the upcoming 2016 ACM Awards. The country star will perform his latest single "Humble and Kind," which acts as somewhat of an inspirational letter to future generations about all the things he hopes they experience and become.

To make the live debut even more impactful, McGraw has asked fans to submit photos holding signs with words that represent what the idea of “humble and kind” means to them. Photos can be submitted on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #HumbleandKindACMs, and select images will be featured on screens behind the artist during the performance.

Submissions began March 14 and must be uploaded by March 25 to be considered. More guidelines can be found on the event page.

Though he didn’t write it himself, “Humble and Kind” is a deeply personal song for McGraw, especially in light of his daughters getting older and starting to venture off on their own. He says he could barely get through a take without crying when recording it.

“I would try to get myself together and I’d get halfway through it and I would just start blubbering every time I tried to sing a line,” he admits.

He had known the song — written by songwriting vet Lori McKenna — for years but didn’t feel it was the right time to record until now.

“Having daughters and having kids who are growing up and going out into the world that song really speaks to me. I certainly think in this day and age in the world that we live in everybody can be so cynical and so snarky and a little bit mean, I think that that song needs to be heard,” McGraw says.

The equally emotional music video was released in January, but his performance of the song at the ACM Awards will be its television debut. McGraw is scheduled to headline WE Fest 2016 this summer, as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Concert for Legends Aug. 5.

The 2016 ACM Awards air April 3 live from Las Vegas.
