1990 – Mandolin player Neil Perry born in Mississippi. He comes to prominence as one-third of The Band Perry, the Country Music Association’s New Artist of the Year for 2011.


1988 – Vern Gosdin picks up a #1 single in Billboard with a song that celebrates Ernest Tubb, “Set ‘Em Up Joe”.


1983 – “Pancho And Lefty” propels Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard to the top spot on the Billboard country chart.


1977 – Fiddler David Pichette born in Montreal, Quebec. He joins Emerson Drive in June 2003, replacing Pat Allingham, one month after the band was named the Academy of Country Music’s top new vocal group.


1971 – Alison Krauss born in Decatur, Illinois. The fiddler-vocalist leads the bluegrass group Union Station, joining the Grand Ole Opry in 1993 and winning more Grammy awards than any other woman in history.
