1988 – Rosanne Cash earns a #1 single in Billboard with a remake of the Johnny Cash song “Tennessee Flat Top Box”.

 

1976 – Bass player Jeremy Plato is born in Oklahoma City. As a member of Cross Canadian Ragweed, he contributes to a quartet of Top 10 country albums from 2004-2009.

 

1971 – Sammi Smith goes to #1 in Billboard with the Kris Kristofferson-penned “Help Me Make It Through The Night”.

 

1927 – Guitarist Jim McReynolds is born in Carfax, Virginia. With his brother, he forms Jim & Jesse, a bluegrass duo that begins recording in 1951, joining the Grand Ole Opry in 1964. They gain a Congressional Medal of the Arts in the 1990s.
