2004 – George Strait’s “I Hate Everything” takes a seat at #1 in Billboard.


2001 – Big Kenny and John Rich join two other solo artists to initiate the MuzikMafia shows at Nashville’s Pub Of Love. The MuzikMafia grows on the Music City club scene, leading to recording contracts for both Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson.


1996 – Buck Owens opens his Crystal Palace, a club in Bakersfield, California.


1993 – George Strait’s “Easy Come, Easy Go” hits #1 on the Billboard country chart.


1992 – Roy Acuff performs on both shows at the Grand Ole Opry. It proves to be his final appearance on the program.


1972 – Jimmy Wayne born in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Following his 2003 debut, he nets his first #1 in 2008 with “Do You Believe Me Now” and calls attention to teen homelessness with a 2010 walk from Nashville to Phoenix.


1956 – Dwight Yoakam born in Pikeville, Kentucky. With an edgy vocal style and a proclivity for roots music, he becomes one of country’s most creative forces, augmenting such iconic hits as “Honky Tonk Man” and “Fast As You” with a side career as an actor.


1939 – Bill Monroe auditions for the Grand Ole Opry at the WSM Radio studios in downtown Nashville, performing “Foggy Mountain Top,” “Mule Skinner Blues” and “Fire On The Mountain.” He passes the audition and debuts five days later.
