Local fire departments will eat jalapenos and hometown heroes will be awarded for their service at this year's Texas State Forest Festival.

Whataburger is bringing eight local fire departments together to eat as many jalapenos as they can to heat up this year's Forest Festival in the main arena of the George H. Henderson Jr. Expo Center on Thursday, September 19. They'll go head-to-head in three 60 second heats to put away as many jalapenos as they can, with the night's winners taking home a donation to their department from Whataburger.

Fire departments from Central, Diboll, Fuller Springs, Hudson, Moffett, Ora, Redland/Rivercrest, and Zavalla will have their emergency vehicles and fire trucks on display in the arena, and will be 'filling the boot' by collecting cash donations. The department with the largest amount raised will also get a contribution from Whataburger.

Meanwhile, while the fire departments try to put out the jalapeno-fueled fires in their mouths, eight local heroes will be recognized for their service to our community and country. Each individual or group will receive an appreciation award from State representative Trent Ashby's office, Whataburger, and the community.

We're all really excited about the Forest Festival starting tomorrow night, and it just keeps getting better! We'll see you at the Hometown Heroes event!
