2006 - Big & Rich and Lynyrd Skynyrd perform a benefit concert at the HiFi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta to raise funds for a memorial to the 173rd Airborne, the division commemorated in "8th Of November." Also appearing: John Anderson, The Lost Trailers and Cowboy Troy.

2005 - Chely Wright performs at the home of vice president Dick Cheney for soldiers who've been wounded during service in the Middle East.

2002 - Ford Trucks debuts a new commercial starring Toby Keith during "Monday Night Football" on ABC-TV.

2000 - Chris LeDoux has a liver transplant in Omaha, Nebraska, after discovering he has primary sclerosing cholangitis.

1991 - Nearly a decade after its release, Willie Nelson's single "Always On My Mind" is certified gold and platinum.

1984 - The Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame inducts Hal David and Billy Sherrill. David's credits include "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" and "It Was Almost Like A Song." Sherrill wrote "Almost Persuaded" and "Stand By Your Man".

1949 - Kieran Kane born in Queens, New York. He has moderate commercial success as a solo artist in the early-1980s before joining with Jamie O'Hara to create The O'Kanes. In the 1990s, he helps create Dead Reckoning Records, an artist-owned independent label.

1940 - Bill Monroe has his first recording session with the Blue Grass Boys, at the Kimball Hotel in Atlanta, for RCA Records. Among the songs he records: "Mule Skinner Blues".

1927 - Jimmie Rodgers' first record, "The Soldier's Sweetheart" backed with "Sleep Baby Sleep," goes on sale.
