In yet another haunting release from his forthcoming studio album Last Man Standing, Willie Nelson has given his fans another life lesson wrapped within the new song “Something You Get Through.”

Telling the all-too-common story of living without someone you love, Nelson shines as he sings that "the end is not the end at all" and that loss "is not something you get over, but something you get through." And instantly, Nelson serves as the skilled storyteller yet again, teaching us all that with life comes death, and with love comes loss.

The roots of the story of “Something You Get Through” is a sweet one, with award-winning producer and songwriter Buddy Cannon recalling the day he overheard Nelson consoling a friend.

"She had obviously lost someone very recently — her husband, or somebody — and she was talking to Willie about it,” recalls Cannon in a recent press release about the song and accompanying video. “I heard the woman say, 'I don't think I'll ever get over this.' And Willie looked at her, and he said: 'It's not something you get over, but it's something you'll get through.' That just stuck in my brain. I tried but I couldn't get that thought out of my head for two or three years. I knew there was a song in there. Finally, one day I texted him about it, and we kicked it around. It ended up being one of my favorite songs."

The song is just one of the many on the new album that is sure to make Last Man Standing one of Nelson’s most powerful compilations of work once released on April 27. Just two days later, on April 29, he will turn 85. And yes, he just keeps getting better and better...and will be additionally be playing a slate of solo dates all the way into November, health permitting.
