We received word just a few minutes ago that the northbound lanes of Loop 287 at Denman in Lufkin are shut down due to an 18 wheeler accident.

That section of the loop will be closed until at least 2pm today.

The official press release from the Lufkin Police Department follows:

Traffic on Loop 287, northbound near the Denman Ave. overpass in Lufkin is being diverted to the exit ramp on Denman due to an 18 wheeler accident.

A northbound truck lost control and crashed into the guard rails and lost its load, a large piece of heavy equipment. The truck also spilled oil and diesel fuel on the overpass, requiring a HAZMAT cleanup and closure of both northbound lanes of Loop 287.

The northbound lanes of Loop 287 at Denman are shut down until at least 2pm today. The piece of heavy equipment was tossed over the guardrail onto the grassy hillside of the overpass during the crash. That will require shutting down the northbound feeder road later today, but that won’t be done until the overpass has re-opened.

We expect the overpass to be closed until at least 2pm today.
