Young Giraffe Dies at Lufkin Zoo
Sad news; details have not yet been released.
Ellen Trout Zoo officials are investigating the unexpected death of an 18-month-old giraffe.
The giraffe, fondly known as “Slim,” was found dead by zookeepers Sunday morning, according to Ellen Trout Zoo Education Assistant Samantha Miller.
“We’re not sure of the cause, but a necropsy has been ordered,” she said.
Slim was born at the zoo in the summer of 2009, Miller said.
In December of 2007, five blackbuck antelope were killed at the Lufkin Zoo. Zoo officials and police believe the animals were killed by dogs that got into the enclosure by digging under the fence.
