Six East Texas Students Receive $1,000 Scholarships
In late May, KICKS 105 and KFOX 95 wrapped up our annual Senior Salute promotion. For the past few years, we have teamed up with McWilliams Heating, Cooling and Plumbing along with Kelly's Truck Parts to award six area graduating seniors $1,000 scholarships.
The winners were drawn in early June, but due to some scheduling conflicts, we weren't able to make all the presentations until mid-August. So here are our six Senior Salute winners, each receiving $1,000.
Kylie Valderrez - Leggett High School
Valedictorian of her senior class, attending Texas State University in San Marcos.
Kylie Ridings - Lufkin High School
Top 20 Panther of Prestige, NHS Scholar Semi-Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, Angelina Benefit Rodeo Queen, 4-year Varsity Lady Pack Soccer, 2 Time Lufkin Player of the Year, Kylie will be playing soccer at Montreat College in Black Mountain, NC.
Kylie was also one of the East Texas students who spent a few extra days on a mission trip to Niger thanks to a government coup.
Alexis Hale - Brookeland High School
Alexis was a member of the National Honors Society and received numerous District Athletic Awards, including leading our track team to State in the 4x200 relay. Alexis is attending Tarleton State University and will work toward a degree in Veterinary Medicine.
Troy Havard - Huntington
Troy graduated in the top 10% of his class and was a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to attend Angelina College and transfer to the University of Houston engineering program in a year.
Sofia Reyes - Hudson High School
She plans on becoming an anesthesiologist. She took classes while in high school to become certified as a nurse's aide, EKG technician, and phlebotomist. She also ran cross country and track for Hudson.
Allie Wethington - Central Heights
Allie went to state three years in a row with her Homesite evaluation team, she plans to go on to college to learn how to train service dogs for people in need.
