A New Team for Brandon Belt

Brandon Belt will soon be starting his 13th full season in Major League Baseball. This year, he will be wearing the uniform of the Toronto Blue Jays after spending his last 12 seasons as a San Francisco Giant.

A Big Heart

The two-time World Series Champion has always been quick to remember his roots. He played his high school ball for the Hornets of Hudson High School, and he and his family still make their home in that area.

Several years ago, Belt made good on a promise to his high school baseball coach, Glen Kimble. Belt said if he ever made it to the Majors (baseball), he would buy him a new bass boat.

Belt has shown his big heart for East Texas in many other ways. He supports various local charities and groups such as the Pregnancy Help Center of Lufkin, foster parenting, and he has donated over $200,000 to The Father's Heart through his Brandon Belt Fishing Tournaments on Lake Sam Rayburn.

A Big Kid

In addition to having a big heart, Brandon is also a big kid. Finding fun and creative ways for people to win money is quite the pastime for him. Belt, with the help of some of his friends, has given away tens of thousands of dollars through local scavenger hunts.

And now, here's another fun way to win. Recently, I was handling the public address at a Hudson basketball game. We had just wrapped up a promotion where a contestant had the chance to win $100 for a half-court shot. Afterward, Belt approached me and said he wanted to up the ante.

Hudson vs Bullard, Tuesday, February 14

During the halftime of this district game, 5 people will each be given one chance to make a basket from half-court. If someone sinks the shot, he or she will win $5,000 courtesy of Brandon Belt. If somehow the laws of luck go haywire that night and all five were to sink a half-court shot, each would win $5K.

Registrations will be going on until about midway through the 2nd quarter of the varsity game, then we will draw for our 5 contestants.  If you'd like to register, the cost is $1 per entry or 6 entries for $5. All money will go to support the Hudson Basketball Booster Club. You must be at least 12 years of age to enter.

What If?

I also handle the public address for SFA Basketball. I knew that Brandon was wanting to attend one of their upcoming games. So...since the answer is always no until you ask, I reached out to him to see if he would consider doing something similar for the SFA game.

Tarleton vs SFA, Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30

promotional release from the university

So, SFA students, make sure you attend this big game on Wednesday in Nacogdoches, not only to try to win cash but also to support the Lumberjacks as they make their push to win a second straight conference title.

Over the course of two nights, 10 contestants will each have the chance to win $5,000. The odds of all ten sinking a half-court shot are extremely low, but Brandon Belt will have $50K ready to go, just in case.
