Anita Cochran displays her indomitable spirit in the new video for her current single, "Fight Like a Girl." Her battle with cancer inspired the song, and Cochran was actually very sick during the video shoot, but true to the spirit of the song, she fought through to do what she needed to do.

Cochran says she wanted the song to be about any kind of battle that life might bring, and in the video for "Fight Like a Girl" — which she also produced, as well as co-directed with T'Pou — she literally comes out swinging, decked out in boxing gear and taking to the ring. As she begins to sing the powerful chorus, Cochran throws back the hood of her jacket dramatically to reveal the hair loss that was one side effect from her treatments.

According to the video description on YouTube, Cochran shot the "Fight Like a Girl" video just two weeks after her last round of heavy chemo treatments. "She was very ill but managed to fight through it," the description states.

Cochran was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in August of 2017, and she began an aggressive treatment involving four different chemotherapy drugs. The side effects from that aggressive treatment regimen made it impossible for her to tour, which was her main source of income.

Some of her all-star friends including Steve Wariner, Crystal Gayle, Wade Hayes, Clay Walker, Ty Herndon, Jamie O’Neal, Lorrie Morgan, Terri Clark, Mandy Barnett, Bryan White, Pam Tillis, Suzy Bogguss, Wynonna Judd and the Lynns joined together for a benefit concert on March 13 that raised $12,000 toward her expenses. In July, Cochran revealed she had been cancer-free for four months after undergoing a double mastectomy and having one of her lymph nodes removed in February.

Cochran is best-known for a string of country songs she released between 1997 and 2004, including "What If I Said," a duet with Wariner that reached No. 1 in 1997. She has shared the details of her cancer battle in her blog, Journey to Healing, at her official website.

"Fight Like a Girl" is available for download and streaming through various digital services, and Cochran has been working on a new EP that she hopes to release during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. To contribute to her medical bills, visit her GoFund Me page.
