Back in July 2018, we did a story about a phone scam where the victims were called about an "urgent civil matter" and that there were warrants for their arrest, and a mess of other things. If you don't remember, you can check out the story by clicking the link below:

After a few weeks, that scam pretty much died out. However, now there's a new phone scam in East Texas for you to watch out for.

First, you get a phone call from someone claiming to work for the IRS. They say that they have a delivery for you, and they give you a specific date that the delivery will be made to your house. The only catch is, you have to give them two forms of personal identification (driver's license number, social security number, etc.).

To make it look more legitimate, they give you what sounds like an official-sounding case number. But, this is phony as well.

Just a few reminders:

  • Don't give out any personal information over the phone, no matter how official it sounds.
  • The IRS isn't really in the "delivery business". Keep that in mind.
  • If you get a call like this, report it immediately.
  • Pass this word on so that no one is taken advantage of.
