To be honest, I haven't experienced much of the single life since I was 17 years old. I've had three long-term relationships in my 23 years of existence (and no, I don't count my kindergarten crush as one of them), almost back-to-back, and never really got a chance to be single & mingle.

So, I asked some of my coworkers at the station where the best places were to meet singles in east Texas, and I was given a few interesting answers - some of the places, I would never have thought to go to search for potential suitors.
Check out the list below. Where do you go to meet singles in your area?

1. Church

With many available options in every city or town in east Texas no matter which religion you practice, attending church is a great way to meet friends and even singles in your area.

One thing to think about is that you'll already have at least one thing in common; religion - which can broden to having similar lifestyle choices, morals, values, etc.  Meet somebody the old fashioned way, without the loud music and alcoholic beverages.

2. Bars and Clubs

Banita Creek Hall

There are many places near SFA that are open until midnight where you can get your groove on, including The Anex, Bullfrogs and the Shack. For a great concert atmosphere, you can visit Banita Creek Hall in Nacogdoches or Wild Horse Saloon and Wild Willie's in Lufkin. Visit their websites to see what events are coming up.

3. Rattlesnake Island

Got a boat? Love the outdoors? Head over to Rattlesnake Island on Sam Rayburn Lake. With 600 miles of shoreline, the lake offers many areas to launch your boat, to have a picnic and to fish, and with many towns surrounding the lake, you could meet singles from all over east Texas.

Areas include: Reland, Lufkin, Huntington, Zavalla, Woden, Etoile, Chireno, Denning, San Augustine, Macune, Broaddus, Roseville, Bronson, Pineland, Browndell, Jasper, Houston and Beaumont, to name a few. Check out the Rattlesnake Island Facebook page to look at photos and get more information about the secluded island.

4. The Gym

I had no idea that one of the most popular places to meet singles was at the gym. When I'm working out, I usually look like a mess - the sweat, the messy hair...that's not exactly my ideal look to try and impress someone. Any fitness center/gym all over east Texas is a great place to meet singles, because you'll already have exercise as a common interest. It's also a great way to socialize with others around you because of the openess and the set-up of the space. Also, step out of your comfort zone and join a group class - you're bound talk to someone you'll be sharing a space with for at least an hour.

Just remember to look for people who aren't wearing headphones and who aren't in the middle of a strenuous workout before you approach them and start a conversation.

 5. The Grocery Store

loading...

Have you ever pictured yourself meeting your soul mate at a supermarket? Neither have I  - but it's not uncommon, surprisingly.

People are usually pretty content when they're shopping for the necessities, so don't be shy to strike up a conversation with the person next to you at the check out line, or standing next to you in a certain aisle. Some good tips to figure out if someone is single or not is to look for a wedding band, and to take a peek at the items in their shopping cart. If the basket is overflowing with dinner for two items or double the amount of food a single person would eat, then you may be out of luck with that person being your dream date.

If you're single and looking to mingle, try some of these places in east Texas
to see if you end up finding your true love. Good luck!
