Not long after Billy Gilman's performance of Adele's "All I Ask" on The Voice on Monday night, the singer was the No. 1 trending topic on Facebook. Coaches, fans and viewers at home were blown away by his tear-jerking cover.

The votes are ultimately what put a singer into the next round, but few would disagree that Gilman's performance was anything less that extraordinary. The former country singer left coach Adam Levine commenting that it was the most powerful performance of the season.

"I couldn't be prouder," Levine said. "This is an incredible human being."

"Do you ever hit a wrong note?" Blake Shelton asked, with little sarcasm.

Afterward, Gilman thanked his fans on Twitter. "Hope you all enjoyed that," he writes. "That was quite the journey. Love YOU ALL. More than you know. Hope you're voting!!"

Gilman's performance neared the Top 10 on iTunes real-time download chart shortly afterward, and he was the first trending topic on Facebook. Needless to say, fans approved, but whether or not they approved to the point of moving him to the Top 10 remains to be seen. The results show airs Tuesday night on NBC at 8PM ET.

Prior to performing on The Voice the 28-year-old was best known for his hit country song "One Voice," recorded and released when he was 11 years old. His star cooled in the following years. This resurgence comes two years after he revealed he is gay.
