Don't worry, the chicken sandwiches aren't going away.  But Chick-fil-A is doing something revolutionary with its menu right here in East Texas, and it might be a sign of things to come in the fast food industry.

Starting January 18th when you buzz through the Chick-fil-A at Lufkin Mall or any of the other East Texas spots, you might notice one of the side items is gone.  The cole slaw is getting the boot, and they've decided to add a kale salad to the menu instead.

Kale was all the rage last year as one of the top superfoods, and Chick-fil-A says it's with that in mind that they decided to add it to the menu.  We can't usually find the superfoods on fast-food menus - things like kale, acai, and chia seeds - so Chick-Fil-A is groundbreaking where that's concerned.

The kale salad is described as kale and broccolini "tossed in a sweet and tangy maple vinaigrette dressing and topped with flavorful dried sour cherries."  Yum!  It sounds like something we'd find in the deli section of higher end grocery stores.  And if you're like me and you have kids that are always jonezin' for chicken tenders, it's always nice to have something healthy-ish to go alongside.

The new superfood salad will have 140 calories and 7 grams of fat in the 5 oz. portion and 170 calories and 8 grams of fat in the 8 oz. portion.

Just keep the fries and shakes in case we want to be bad!  Then everyone is happy.
