Cody Johnson, Taste of Country's newest RISERS star, has a busy 2019 ahead of him: After releasing his major-label studio debut, Ain't Nothin' to It, on Jan. 18, the Texas singer-songwriter is hitting the road for a full calendar of tour dates.

Omaha, Neb.; Rosemont, Ill.; Norfolk, Va. — Johnson will hit those cities and plenty more as he cross-crosses the United States throughout 2019. Stops at RodeoHouston, the Stagecoach festival and the Ryman Auditorium — the latter already a sold-out gig — await this year, as do a string of amphitheater shows with Luke Combs.

A former rodeo cowboy with a day job at a prison, Johnson released six studio albums independently before signing a deal with Warner Music Nashville in 2018. He actually had three different Music City labels courting him.

"We had our lawyer draw up a contract that basically said, 'I do want those masters, I do want my publishing. I will not give up this, I will not give up that,'" Johnson tells Taste of Country. "He kinda laughed and said, 'Good luck getting that signed.'"

Hey, sometimes sticking to your guns works out.
