Ready for Crawfish? Here’s the Timeline for Lufkin Area Eateries
I love the Christmas season. The decorations, the movies, the food, the experiences, and of course, the reason for the season...I love it all.
That's why when the first or second week of January hits, I get a little depressed at the realization that I'll be waiting another 10 months or so before the holiday season really starts ramping up.
But then...
Crawfish Season is Almost Here
...my attitude takes a turn for the better when I realize that the time for feasting on spicy Cajun crawfish is just around the corner.
Granted, there are no themed movies to watch like "It's A Wonderful Crawfish", "Boudreaux The Red-Bodied Mudbug", or "Crustacean Vacation", but the sound of a propane tank releasing gas at full blast and the smell of Cajun spices coming to boil makes me react like...
Last week, I saw on social media that Crawdaddy's Boil-N-Go plans on opening their locations in Lufkin and Diboll on Thursday, January 11. That got me wondering when other restaurants and stores would be offering boiled crawfish or selling sacks of live crawfish.
The Lowdown on Mudbugs
As previously mentioned, they plan on opening this Thursday. During crawfish season, Crawdaddy's is usually open Thursdays and Fridays from 5 pm to 10 pm, and on Saturdays from noon until sold out.
I talked to a manager at The Crawfish Shop, located on Highway 69 just south of Lufkin, and she told me that it will be close to the end of January before they serve up some delicious boiled crawfish, and that will also be about the same time that they will have sacks of live crawfish for sale.
Area Lakes Catfish & Seafood Market
The owner told me that right now most of the crawfish from their suppliers are small and rather expensive. So, they would rather wait until there is a larger supply and better crawfish.
They expect to be going full force selling sacks of crawfish well before the Super Bowl, which falls on February 11 this year. Area Lakes is located on Denman Avenue just east of the Timberland Drive intersection, and they have a great selection of delicious seafood.
Located at 1302 N. John Redditt in Lufkin, Pelican Pointe is also waiting until the end of January to start serving up their delicious crawfish. They are waiting until the crawfish supply is "plentiful and substantial".
They will also be offering sacks of live crawfish, as well. They will also have a remote location for serving up boiled crawfish...more details to come.
Located at 120 County Road 810 in Central Heights, America's Best Crawfish will be serving boiled crawfish on February 1.
