Danny Merrell Reads at Nettie Marshall Elementary in Nacogdoches
Hamster...in the picture above we are all doing our best hamster impression. Why? It's a long story. Well, 144 pages long. You see, I had the privilege and fun of reading a story at Nettie Marshall Elementary this morning.
The book is titled, 'The World According to Humphrey', and Humphrey is a story-telling hamster. Of course, we humans only hear him squeaking, but Humphrey is truly trying to have a conversation. It's a very intriguing book, but I only got through two chapters.
Nacogdoches ISD hosted a 'Nacogdoches Reads One Book' event in which various 'celebrities' from around the area volunteered their time to read to classes at several schools. My class at Nettie Marshall was well-mannered, attentive, and very bright! I asked questions as I read and they knew all the answers including some I had not even thought of.
By the way, if you look at the picture again, the kid to my left wearing white is doing a very creative impersonation of a hamster. In the book, Humphrey talks about how he likes to store food in his cheeks, and this young man remembered that and decided to puff his cheeks for the picture.
Gracias ninos!
