New Segment of Highway 59 Diboll Relief Route Opens to Traffic Thursday

Beginning Thursday, May 22, motorists travelling northbound on Highway 59 near Diboll can expect a major change of scenery as a new section of freeway is opened up for travel. A huge traffic shift is ready to be put in place for the Diboll Relief Route.

Here's A Look at The Traffic Shift Coming to Highway 59 Around Diboll

The northbound traffic on US 59 will be transitioned onto the new Diboll Relief Route approximately 1.5 miles north of the Neches River. Northbound traffic will return to existing US 59, north of Diboll, at FM 2108. Southbound traffic will remain in its existing configuration. 

Development of the Diboll Relief Route was revived after being identified as the top priority of I-69 development in Angelina County by the I-69 Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties Committee in 2013.

Detailed engineering, necessary environmental permits, ROW acquisitions and utility relocations were completed in fall 2019.

More Details on the Diboll Project

Sacyr Construction was awarded the project and began construction in April 2020. The total cost of the project is approximately $ 140.1 million. The relief route is 8.2 miles long, bypassing Diboll to the east.

The project is expected to be complete in the Winter of 2025.
